Old Traditions Made New with High Tech Lighting.
This Year's National Christmas Tree the Most Energy Efficient - With a Bit of Drama
GE and LED lighting products create an efficient, beautiful "green" tree with color-changing appeal
As in the past two years, LED technology will provide all the lighting for the National Christmas Tree. And just like last year, the average homeowner can purchase these same products to light their own homes.
This year's design features programmable color-changing LED lights to provide a dramatic lighting scheme. The ornaments are crystal-look LED starbursts with an iridescent finish. They complement the lighting design at night and add a decorative element to the tree's appearance during daytime hours.
"Color-changing LEDs provide a theatrical quality to this year's design. They showcase the ever-increasing versatility and performance enhancements of LED lighting solutions," said Mary Beth Gotti, Manager of the GE Lighting Institute in Cleveland, Ohio.
The lighting totals for this year's National Christmas Tree include approximately 65 sets of programmable multi-colored LED lights and 160 starburst ornaments. The heirloom topper design, used for the sixth consecutive year, was upgraded with commercial grade Tetra®MAX LEDs.
"The total wattage for this year's tree is under 2000 watts. With outstanding energy efficiency, long life and design versatility, LEDs are truly becoming the newest holiday tradition," says Gotti.
GE has been designing the lighting for the National Christmas Tree since 1962, producing and donating the lighting and decorations.
