Picture thousands of lights and unique decorations glowing against a December night. Every holiday season, the National Christmas Tree stands as a daily reminder of the holiday spirit and of this cherished national tradition. Several days after the lighting ceremony and through January 1, the grounds open to the public, so bring your family and friends to enjoy it. The lights are typically on from sunset until 10:00 PM Sunday through Thursday and until 11:00 PM Friday and Saturday.

Every year, American students from every U.S. state, territory, and the District of Columbia are invited to design one-of-a-kind ornaments celebrating the history, heritage, and culture of their home. Their creations come together each December in the America Celebrates display, surrounding the National Christmas Tree and open free to all visitors.
