Illinois

Oregon Elementary School

“Students in 4th through 6th grade at OES came in over the summer to create their ornament designs. We guided students through a workshop to brainstorm and generate ideas. Students were asked to think of things that reminded them of Illinois. Since our school is in a rural area, many students chose images of nature and included state symbols.” – Bella D., Teacher

I chose to draw corn because everywhere I go in Illinois I basically see corn. I chose a violet because in my yard every year I see violets. I chose a white oak leaf because I think I have a few white oaks and I like collecting and pressing leaves. I did a white-tailed deer because I see deer in cornfields, my backyard, and sometimes crossing the roads. I chose the cardinal because I love seeing them in my yard. I did the monarch butterfly because it’s so pretty and I want to help raise the population.
