Lenexa Hills Elementary

“We opened the opportunity to design ornaments to the whole school, and have 1st through 6th graders representing our state! Our students showed so many aspects of our state that they are proud of, and their artist statements give a wonderful glimpse into their inspiration and creativity. We are so proud to have these ornament designs representing Lenexa Hills Elementary, the Shawnee Mission School District, and the state of Kansas.” – Megan E., Teacher

The inspiration I had for my ornament was the Sunflower, because not only are they the Kansas State flower, but they are so beautiful with all their colors and Pedals. To make my drawing I used markers, Pens, and a pencil to sketch. When I pictured Sunflowers in my head, I thought of a beautiful sunset in the background with different hues of pink, purple, orange, and a little yellow. I out lined the Sunflowers with a black pen to make it pop. Overall, I spent a while making this piece and I am very proud of how it turned out. I am so glad that I got this opportunity to design a ornament for the national tree.
