“Our ornaments were created by students in Grades 3–5 who participate in our Gifted & Talented Art program. Students explored the theme of “Magic, Wonder, and Joy,” drawing inspiration from Maine’s natural beauty, wildlife, seasonal traditions, and the spirit of our close-knit northern community. Each ornament reflects the creativity, pride, and imagination of our students, and their deep connection to the people and places that make Maine so special.” – Ruth M., Teacher

I chose to draw a potato field with a sunset and hot air balloons because it reminded me of the walks I take with my mom. I live out in the country where I am surrounded with potato fields. Aroostook County is known for the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival that takes place where I live in Maine. I used the shading technique to add color to my picture. The hardest part was figuring out how to do the colors of the sky. I am really grateful for this opportunity to show what Maine means to me.
